Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of material do we use and how long does it last?
A: We use all High Performance top of the line vinyl.

Q: How should I prep the surface before applying the graphic / name?
A: Never wax any surface before applying vinyl lettering. You should always wash the surface with soap & water or with strong windex with amonia & wipe with a paper towel. Make sure that it is free of dirt or any type of oily residue. If you feel any type of oil or if the surface feels to slick after washing wipe it with a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol. Let it dry & that will insure that it’s clean & ready. Once the graphic / lettering is on you can do whatever you have been doing to the boat prior to applying the graphic. If you want to wash it & wax it it’s ok to do so.

Q: Does the vinyl come with any type of warranty?
A: Yes, the vinyl is warrantied from us & the manufacture of the material. At SpeedyBoatLettering.com we feel you will be success at installing your lettering by our instructions.

Q: Is it easy to install?
A: The vinyl you order comes with an instruction sheet and an application squeege. The instructions we supply we feel is very simple & easy. You can also call us!

Q: If I have an old name how do I get it off?
A: If your present boat has lettering on it already the removal is rather simple for vinyl. Most vinyl decals will peel right off if you are careful and work slowly. Just lift a corner of a letter with your fingernail and peel back slowly. We find that it works best sometime with heat from a hair dryer or heat gun. If the surface is painted then we have had good experience with oven cleaner. Spray a little bit on let it foam up & wipe it off with a wet sponge until it is completely clean then wipe it off with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel (try a small area first). If it’s vinyl it will most likely leave some glue behind on the surface. Once you remove all of the vinyl, the remaining glue residue can be removed with denatured alcohol and paper towels (local hardware store). Do not use cloth towels which retain the adhesive and will continue to smear it around the surface. When wiping the area with paper towels be sure to constantly fold and change the towel to trap removed glue. Dispose of paper towels frequently during this process. Once you feel that it is clean & free of glue residue wipe it off with a clean paper towel and rubbing alcohol. Let it dry & your ready to apply your new graphics.
